There were days last week with our VERY young group of kiddos when I had to stop and pinch myself, but now that we are getting to know one another, I think we are ready to dive in and really become a family who understands and loves one another for our similarities and differences. Meeting children where they are emotionally, academically and socially, is our goal this year. I am putting my unit study approach to teaching on hold for a bit, while we get some basics under our belt. We will be learning to do work as a team and play nicely, before we get all crazy with studies. Every year is different, and that is the challenge of teaching that I am learning to enjoy.
This week, we worked on following directions, sharing, putting toys back where they belong, walking in a line and using kind words and voices to talk to our friends. We have read a few stories from our Storybook Bible and we love being reminded about how much God loves us, no matter what! I think we ended the week with only a few unkind voices and no tears. Wahoooooo!
We continue to watch in amazement as our caterpillar goes through metamorphisis(a word that we can all attempt to say now). ADORABLE to hear their sweet voices use big words. We now have two chrysalis, one J shaped caterpillar and 3 eggs that just hatched this morning in our science center! God's miracle of life and changes still amazes me even after watching this process year after year. The students have been great at helping me find milkweed to feed our hungry caterpillars and love observing the changes that are taking place.
We had a very busy week with lots of learning and I am ready to take on a new week with even more learning and loving.
We will continue working on writing our names, patterning in math and drawing pictures of ourselves next week.
