BEES!!!!

We are having so much fun learning about bees!  Ask your kiddos about the queen, worker and drone bees.  Which two get "married" so that the queen can lay eggs?  We now know the life cycle of a bee and have a rap about it..."The egg, the larva, the pupa and the BEE!"  Sometimes I come up with silly raps to teach concepts and I come up with them without any thought, so they are pretty lame.  ;)
How do the bees make that buzzing sound?  Their thorax vibrates, so they can actually buzz without moving their wings at all, which shakes the pollen off the flowers.  We now know all the parts of a bee and will continue learning about pollination next week!  So much fun with math, literacy and  science as we learn about bees.

Pictures are in!  I talked with Kim, as the pictures seem really bright, but she assured me that she waits to edit after they are ordered.  She does an amazing job!  I think they turned out great!

Please send $2 with your child on Monday so that we can go "pick" a pumpkin for our pumpkin hunt next week.  (I purchase pumpkins each year and then we lay them all over the acreage next door, where the kiddos find one and "buy" it from me with pretend money.  This is my kind of field trip, as I try to avoid commercialism and pumpkin hunting.  Simplicity is best with me!  ;)  A great counting activity and a real life lesson that is SOOO much fun!

Enjoy more amazing pictures of your adorable kiddos!
