Bees and Pumpkins!

We had another busy and super fun week at The Barn!  The giggles are getting louder, as all the new friendships grow stronger.  We seriously have an amazing class!  We are kind and loving toward one another and learning about how good friends should treat each other.

We are still enjoying our bee study and still have so much to learn, even though one of the students looked at me today while Jill and I discussed lessons for next week and said, "Serious, we are still going to learn about bees?!"  There is still so much learning and fun left in our bee unit, we can't stop now! These sweet kiddos crack me up!

This week we discussed how pollination happens and how very lucky our flowers are to have bees to help them spread all over the world.  We did a bit of hands on learning as we "pollinated" our cotton ball flowers using jello powder as the pollen.  I think we finally understand how all of that happens.

We practiced writing our names on the fence and some stumps.  :)  We also sent home each child's name to practice writing.  Practicing a little bit each day will give your child the confidence without the frustration.  Remember, it's okay to just do one or two letters at a time.  Don't make it frustrating.  Have your child write their names in the bathtub with shaving cream, in a pan filled with sand, outdoors with chalk or even just a wet paintbrush.  Make it FUN!

On Wednesday, we had our first visit of the year from our amazing local librarian, Ms. Cathy.  Ms. Cathy read a book about a pumpkin before we left to "pick" our own pumpkins!  I love how simple activities bring overflowing joy from children.  The entire class ran up my neighbor's lane with pure joy in their hearts for the simple things of life that God has given us to enjoy.  Nature is such a gift.
