Ms. Hollie's Preschool at the Big Red Barn: Winter Study

We will continue our study on winter and animals. We have learned about hibernation, migration and adaptation. Ask your child about these things and discuss ways that we adapt as humans in winter(whether we like to our not).

It feels like it has been a crazy last couple weeks and we miss our routine. Monday will be a preschool professional development day, so we will be excited to see everyone on Tuesday, January 24th.

Remember to pack warm clothes for going outdoors. We have so many students with cold hands and legs. Snowpants are a pain, but they sure help to keep those little bodies warm. These kids need to be outside, so we will continue to be outdoors daily, unless the weather is too brutal. No bad weather, just bad clothing. ;)

We are planning to celebrate Valentine's Day on February 14th. Have your child make a Valentine for each student in their class. I ask that you please just have your child sign who it is FROM and not specify who it is FOR. Although most of us can recognize our freinds' names, it can become very confusing while handing them out. This is great practice for name writing, but can be exhausting for those fine motor skills. Plan ahead so that your child can finish five each day, instead of sitting down and writing their name twenty times. Trust me, it will be so much easier.

Enjoy the next few days getting outside and playing in the snow with your children. We all need the fresh air. Half the battle is getting ready to go outside, but once you are out in the fresh air, it is worth it. Do it! Being outdoors is good for physical and mental health. I'm heading out soon to play with my dog and I can' wait to get out of the house!
